5 Dayz of Style: Isabel Prosper

We decided to follow the style journey of great people we know in Vancouver who are passionate about their work and lives and have unique personal style. So our first pick was naturally the beautiful and talented Isabel Prosper. Isabel is an actress and is working with an organization called the Karma Exchange, pairing businesses with charitable initiatives to give a percentage of all sales to different communities in need. She is a kind and generous woman with a great spirit and an infectious smile. She also has great style! So we were honoured when she agreed to be followed by us to capture her 5 Dayz of Style!

Day 1

We met Isabel at Highlife World Music on Commercial Drive where she was doing some shopping. Bold prints, soulful colours and rich fabrics.

Day 2

Isabel was meeting her sister and a friend for coffee on this sunny fall day at Thierry Patisserie downtown. She told us about her beautiful necklace (see video below) and we love how she was working that hat!

Day3

VIFF viewing. A quick shot of Isabel before she went in to catch a movie with her boyfriend. Snakeskin belt and leopard shoe. Fierce!

Day 4

We caught up with Isabel at a coffee shop on her way to a networking event. She showed us her modelling skills and her cool way of layering before we were scolded for taking pictures in the venue. Oops! ;)

Day 5

Our last day with Isa she was on her way to an audition. It was a rainy day but she kept it light and pretty with a cute dress while sporting purple Hunter Wellies and inspiring a new Street Style post!

Thanks for being our first 5 Dayz Styler Isabel! We loved every minute! XOXO

Well, well, wellies…

In rainy Vancouver what’s a girl to do when it comes to maintaining cute footwear? I recently saw a post on facebook from a very fashionable young law student saying “Thinking of giving in for the first time in my life and purchasing Wellingtons.. I think a little part of me is dying inside hahaha”  and “ I think my delusion of good weather returning is finally coming to an end lol… and I can’t keep ruining all my leather boots… it’s TIME. Waaaaa!”

While downtown on a particularly dreary drizzly day, we started to notice that she was not the only one that had those feelings.  The Hunter Welly Boots seemed to be the favorite and, although I am still not sold, there were definitely some cute looks. Walking home the other day and soaking my favourite suede booties, I am strongly considering heading over to GumDrops and springing for a cute pair of Wellies.

Mick, on the other hand, isn’t so sure:

Mick: “$90 to $150!?… for rubber???” This was my reaction when I learned how much these rain boots can cost from one of the  Hunter Welly sporting Vancouverites we met on the street. According to her, they can be a fashion statement. They still just look like rubber to me!

What do you think???

“These are $20!” she said (boots below)

Even our first “5 Dayz of Style” candidate joined in with a great purple pair!

Next street post: “5 Dayz of Style” !!!

Bisous Vancouver!

Model minute: Vancouver Convention Centre 09-29-2011

Had a great time walking for designer Ali Mokhtarian of Valerio Moda at the Interior Design Show West (IDS West). The show took place at the Vancouver Convention Centre and by the way, this post would be incomplete without mentioning my new friend Wesley aka “Wesley Snipes”. Snipes managed to keep us all entertained backstage with his signature run way walk… the Michael Jackson “Moonwalk”. Too bad he didn’t actually do it on the runway… (video below)

With Wesley, backstage, getting ready to walk for Valerio Moda.

Spend On Trend Vancouver

Main Street Stylez: Spend on Trend!

When looking for a cool vibe, a great meal or a funky fashion piece, Main Street is where it is at! We went for a walk, cameras and umbrella in hand and made our way to the historic Heritage Hall to check out the Spend on Trend Fashion Event. And of course, we also got to learn a little bit about it’s origin and mission.

Spend On Trend:  “Since its creation in 2004, it has been Spend on Trend’s aim to promote independent Canadian designers to savvy, socially conscious shoppers, media and wholesale buyers. Spend on Trend acts as a vital source for west coast boutiques to keep a close watch on the city’s flourishing design scene. Shoppers eagerly await the much anticipated event to catch a glimpse of the latest trends for the upcoming season!”

We didn’t know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised by the friendly vibe and the unique designs we encountered. Everything from beautiful jewellery pieces,  limited edition vintage graphic tees from Ole Originals, Vintage belt buckles at Flight Path Designs, Eco-friendly clothing at Revival Ink  and handmade quality leather goods, were showcased.

Two standouts for us were the raw textured, earthy upscale bags of Five Left and the vintage inspired, pretty with an edge jewellery of  Toodlebunny Designs. Vancouver is rich with creative energy and it was alive and well at Spend on Trend.  Enjoy!

Davie Stylez

Around the World in Davie Days!

Music, Art, Culture, Texture and Colour! Davie Days turned Davie street, downtown Vancouver, into a street festival and we decided to join in the fun and check out the Stylez.  The fashion themes of the day were vibrant prints and either bold colours or muted, subtle shades in natural fabrics and earthy textures.  A special mention goes to the gents, who showed up in killer kicks and brought a touch of Dandy or a hint of Nerd Chic to the street.

More than once we almost forgot we were in the city of Vancouver and instead felt transported to other countries and even continents! This city is rich in diversity and on this bright sunny day the sun shone down on the unique Stylez of Vancouver!

Vendors display lovely textures and colour!

Ole Originals

We are proud to have Chandler Herbut, founder of Ole Originals, as our first local Vancouver designer on Vancouver Stylez! Here’s how it went down: I received an email from Chandler asking me to model some of his t shirts from his line, and I instantly agreed. I had briefly met Chandler a few years ago through his sister Jenna Herbut, who’s as friendly, warm and sweet as they come. Both of them are behind Make It!, The Handmade Revolution, so saying yes to Chandler was a no-brainer.

I asked my partner to come along and shoot the shoot and we made our way to Gastown. We arrived at Chandler’s great live/work loft and got to work.  Getting to know Chandler and modelling for him was a lot of fun and our time spent working together was easy and effortless. We shot around some locations in Gastown and then I turned the camera on him to find out more about the vision of Ole Originals.

When we were finished he gifted me with three Ole t-shirts of my choice. After wearing the shirts, all I can say is that I love my new Ole Originals t-shirts! At 6’3″, finding a t-shirt that not only has a great length but is also fitting can be a challenge. I am all about a great vintage tee and these have become my new favourites.

We are happy to have found our first Vancouver designer and to showcase the Stylez of Ole Originals!
